You can set off on long adventures with a Beneteau Swift Trawler, which sips fuel at displacement speeds but can plane when needed to meet a tight schedule. The smallest in this series, the 34 offers comfortable accommodations for a coastal cruising couple.

Beneteau’s design team drew a modified-V running bottom with two lifting strakes on each side, wide chines and a sharp entry. At first glance, it looks like a pure planing hull. But with a curved transom, Lenco trim tabs and a single 425 hp Cummins QSB 5.9 common-rail diesel turning a conventional inboard shaft, the hull moves easily at displacement speeds and rises onto plane evenly when needed without obstructing the skipper’s sight lines.  A keel forward of the shaft, deep spade rudder, and bow and (optional) stern thrusters helped her track well in all seas and maneuver smoothly in tight quarters.

Asymmetrical decks provide surprising benefits. The starboard deck is wider, with a full bulwark for going forward and a midship access door for boarding from a floating dock, placed beside a sliding door to the helm. The port deck is set higher, which allows a huge storage compartment beneath it inside the salon. The height also allows placement of an external propane tank compartment opposite the galley. You will find grab handles securely anchored and strategically placed.

The cabin is compact but adequate. In the salon, a settee is to starboard, with a stable but movable central table. The settee folds out into a double berth. Below is a master cabin with queen berth forward and a double-decker cabin to port. The head is to starboard.

The flying bridge helm affords a commanding view, and the settee with pedestal table to port invites the crew to socialize topside. The long cabin top with its curtained side rails might suggest a party space, but serious cruisers will fill it with a dinghy that launches easily from the 34 Swift’s mast and boom.

Manufacturer Provided Description

The existing Swift Trawler range of the ST 42 and ST 52 is growing, and will be joined by the Swift Trawler 34 this autumn. This new edition benefits from a semi-planing hull similar to the one on which its senior siblings have built their reputation. The new model is a collaborative effort between designers Joubert - Nivelt and the BENETEAU design team. Its proposition is as simple as it is attractive: comfortable on-board living for a couple and their guests. 1. Outside: traditional, comfortable design The Swift Trawler 34 inherits its overall visual appeal from its 42-foot big brother, with a stylish wheelhouse and large flybridge, complete with derrick for easy tender handling and stowage. The capacious cockpit locker is big enough to store every item of seagoing equipment. A hinged gate provides access to the transom skirt and its bathing ladder. Access to the generous sunbathing platform forward of the wheelhouse is either via the starboard passageway (with its safety door) or the wide and ultra-safe side deck to port. The flying bridge is surprisingly spacious and extremely comfortable. To port, a large space is available to house the tender, whilst further forward is the starboard helm position and saloon with a 6-seater table. 2. Inside: modular space The wheelhouse interior is accessed via a 3-panel sliding glass door that creates a perfect feeling of space. The saloon converts very easily to provide a double berth to starboard (with a clic-clac sofa bed opening to 1.20 x 2.00 metres). Moving forward, the port side helm station with its double bench seat is extremely comfortable. The removable floor step is retractable for easy access to the passageway via a sliding side door. The U-shaped galley with its double sink and choice of work surfaces is to port. The companionway leads to the port guest cabin (with bunk berths) and the starboard washroom and WC with its ventilation port and storage. The bow compartment houses the generous owner’s cabin with its large bed (1.99 x 1.60 metres with access from both sides) and many storage spaces (including one beneath the bed). A great deal of work has been done to maximise the acoustic insulation on board. Lastly, the Swift Trawler 34 is extremely roomy, with a saloon, galley and owner’s cabin comparable in size to the accommodation offered in the 42-foot version; in fact, the finishes and woodwork are identical. 3. At sea: performance in comfort The Swift Trawler 34 is powered by a single Cummins 425 HP diesel delivering a maximum speed of 22 knots for real safety and performance at lower fuel consumption. The hull is immensely stable when moored and underway, and berthing manoeuvrability is maximised by the bow thruster (standard) and stern thruster (optional). Clear access to the engine, plumbing and electrical systems makes for easy maintenance and servicing.Additional Description
