Catalina built 365 of these beauties, a tribute to her performance capability. In a 2014 issue of Cruising World, Michael Robertson noted, "with its pedigree, it's no surprise that owners report the Catalina 38 sails to windward like it's on rails and also sails beautifully in light air. That superior upwind performance comes with a draft that approaches 7 feet." The Catalina 38 has a rich history. From exhilarating regattas to leisurely coastal cruises, this sailboat has been a steadfast companion for adventurers seeking thrilling experiences on the water. Whether you're racing against the wind or cruising at a leisurely pace, this vessel's exceptional performance will leave you in awe. The cabin is very spacious with good headroom. The nav table is starboard and well-equipped galley is to port. A double berth is aft of the nav table. The double-sink and gimbled stove/oven combo is complimented by good counter and storage space. The U-shaped dinette converts to a double-berth, and the starboard seat is a single berth. The head is to port and beyond is the vee berth. The cabin is dry and polished. This fin keel has 6,850 pounds of ballast and an internally-mounted spade rudder. The Masthead sloop sailplan has a mainsail area of 253 sq. ft. and a jib/genoa area of 385.95 sq. ft., for a total of 638.95 sq ft sail area. She has both a spinnaker and adjustable whisker pole and Lewmar sheet, halyard and reefing winches. Sail inventory is in average condition and includes a mainsail, 110% furling jib, Harken #2 roller furler, 120% furling jib, 3/4 oz. spinnaker, 1 1/2 oz. spinnaker, and a spare mainsail. The PHRF handicap is 116. The current owner has undertaken projects to preserve and maintain the Catalina 38's original charm. The current owners worked tirelessly in 2022 to paint the bottom with antifouling paint, install a new packing gland, electrical mast wiring, deck steaming light, tri-color mast head light, house batteries, Garmin display and transducer, new Jabsco head and plumbing, sea water strainer, aft bilge thru hull, and all new safety equipment. The engine was serviced in 2022, port holes were re-sealed and made watertight, and teak deck trim was sanded and varnished. It's evident that the Catalina 38 is not merely a sailboat but a vessel that encapsulates the spirit of adventure, craftsmanship, and timeless beauty. With its illustrious history and unwavering performance, this Sparkman Stephens creation continues to captivate sailors and enthusiasts alike, beckoning them to embark on a remarkable journey across the seas. Step aboard the Catalina 38 and let the winds guide you on an unforgettable voyage of a lifetime.
