TED BREWER MIAMI 45 KETCH - QUETZALCOATL– WALKTHROUGH

TOPSIDES

Quetzalcoatl is a flush deck, doghouse cruising ketch. A teak capped gunwale encloses the deck, which is protected by sturdy double stainless steel railing running 360 degrees around the deck; gates are found mid-ship, port and starboard and at the stern. A folding boarding ladder is mounted at the port gate and two outboard motor mounts are rail mounted at the stern.

Three hatches and three deck prisms are found on the fore deck, with single hatches located on top of the doghouse and in the cockpit. Six opening portlights are mounted in hull with one found in the cockpit. Two dorade vents are found midship just forward of the doghouse, with two additional dorade vents mounted on the foredeck. Hand holds run along the doghouse top.

The bowsprit features dual anchor roller mounts, serviced by an electric windless.

Tracks for head and stay sail turning blocks are deck and gunwale mounted. Two cleats are found at the bow with two samson posts at the stern and two bollards midships.

The ketch rig features aluminum spars, dual spreader main and a single spreader mizzen mast, supported by stainless wire standing rigging. The rig is completed by a headsail roller fueler, stay sail stay, running back stays, stack pack and lazy jacks. One self-tailing Lewmar 44 and two self-tailing Lewmar 40 winches are mounted on the main mast, with one self-tailing Harken 16 mounted on the boom. The mizzen mast features three Lewmar 16 winches, as well as a mounted radar dome and wind generator.

COCKPIT

The center cockpit features 180 degree bench seating with cushions. The mizzen mast is found in the center of the cockpit along with a binnacle featuring an instrument pod, magnetic compass, teak cupholder and folding table. The wheel is mounted at the stern. A raised deck is found forward of the mizzen mast followed by the salon companionway which is protected by a hard top dodger.

Two Lewmar 54 2-Speed, self-tailing winches are mounted on the port and starboard coamings, with 2 Lewmar 40 winches mounted on the raised deck. Teak grating covers the deck. The cockpit is protected from the sun by an aluminum framed canvas cover.

DOGHOUSE

Entering the doghouse from the cockpit via a center mounted companionway the cabin features a seating area on the starboard side and a galley on the port side. The doghouse, as well as the rest of the interior, features white surfaces with light wood joinery and teak soles. The seating area features a table with two settees facing fore and aft. Storage lockers are found along the starboard side under the table and under the settees. Two stereo speakers are mounted forward. Plenty of light is provided by nine windows, an overhead hatch, overhead white/red lights and recessed fluorescent lights. Ventilation and light is provided by the hatch, the cockpit companionway an opening window, three fans and reverse cycle air conditioning. Two side mounted reading lamps provide additional lighting. Radio and navigation equipment is mounted forward and aft of the seating area.

GALLEY

The U-shaped galley is located on the port side opposite the seating area, and features a three burner gimbaled stove/oven, double stainless steel sink and a large top access cold locker and a large top access freezer (non-functional). Storage is provided by under counter lockers and drawers. There are two 120 vac outlets, overhead lights and a vent fan over the stove. A microwave oven is mounted above the stove.

SALON

The salon is entered three steps down via a forward companionway in the doghouse between the galley and seating area. The salon features two settees on the port and starboard sides with pilot berths behind. A flat screen tv and stereo speakers are mounted on the aft bulkhead. Light is provided by overhead lights, two reading lamps, two deck prisms, two opening ports and an opening hatch, which also provides ventilation along with two dorade vents, four fans and reverse cycle ac. Storage is provided by lockers on either side and below/behind the settees.

AFT CABIN

The full beam aft cabin is accessed via an aft companionway in the doghouse. A double berth is found on the port side, with a chest of drawers opposite on starboard, A storage/utility area is tucked behind the chest with shelving found at the aft bulkhead on the starboard side. A hanging locker is center mounted on the aft bulkhead. Additional storage is found under the berth. Lighting is provided by overhead lights and a reading lamp. Additional light and ventilation is provided by two opening portlights an overhead hatch, two fans and reverse cycle air conditioning.

FORWARD CABIN

Access to the forward cabin is found in the salon, port side forward. The cabin features two over/under berths with a locker beneath. Additional storage is provided by a hanging locker forward of the berths with a shelf atop and a locker with shelves opposite. Two reading lamps and overhead lights provide lighting. Additional lighting is given by an overhead hatch and two opening ports which, along with two fans, also offer ventilation. Access to the forecastle is found on the forward bulkhead.

FORECASTLE

The forecastle is found in the bow and is a largely unfinished section of the boat used for storage. If fitted out it could be converted to a third cabin with two berths.

HEAD

The head is accessed from salon on the forward starboard side. The head features a countertop with sink, separate shower and a manual flush marine toilet. Entering the head the counter top sink and toilet are along the starboard side. Lockers and a shelf are found behind the sink and toilet, with additional storage below the sink. An arm mounted mirror is mounted above the sink along with towel hooks. Additional towel hooks are located on the bulkhead opposite the sink. The shower is forward of the sink/toilet and features a shower wand with hot and cold water controls, a bench seat and a large locker on the starboard side. Lighting is provided by an overhead lights, a deck prism, a hatch, which along with two fans, also offer ventilation.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT

The engine compartment is below the doghouse and is accessed via large hatches in the deck to provide 360 degree access to the engine and 270 degree access to the generator.
