DOLPHIN is a terrific example of a boat that was built to the highest level in terms of craftsmanship, design, and design execution. There are so many clever ideas built into this boat, it will amaze those fortunate enough to spend time aboard. Ed Dettling, the builder and driving force behind the Dettling brand built boats that powerboaters, and sail-boaters alike would appreciate. Not only is the quality good, the hull design by Hunt outstanding, but the countless number of details make this boat perfect for short- and long-term cruising by a couple or two couples. To build this boat today a boat builder would have to charge an astronomical amount.

The boat's classic lines look great but are also very functional. The main salon, for example, features huge, fixed windows that let wonderful light into the main living area. The galley is connected to the main salon, and it is extremely functional with outstanding freezer and refrigerator space, outstanding storage, and clever elements like a trash drop directly into the trash can from counter level.

Forward of the galley is the full beam master stateroom with a double berth athwartship. Storage is plentiful throughout. Attached to the master stateroom and forward is the master head with separate stall show and plenty of storage.

Aft of the main salon is the guest cabin with attached head and shower. There is a full-sized washing machine and dryer in the head. The berth is a double berth. Again, there is outstanding storage in this space.

Aft of the main salon and up slightly curved steps are the pilothouse/helm station. The sense of control provided by great visibility is instantly felt when sitting at the helm bench seat. A clever design element is implemented in the pilothouse for those who like to drive outside, but don't want a full flybridge. The area inboard of the helm station is designed to be stood upon and there is a large sliding hatch which one can then stand up through. There is an enclosed electronics box just forward of the hatch that allows the captain to comfortably handle the boat while standing partly outside.

The aft deck/cockpit is a favorite place on this boat as it is covered with a hardtop. There is a beautiful folding table in the middle of the space with four folding captains' chairs. What a perfect place to enjoy a quiet morning or relax at anchor after a good day's trip.

DOLPHIN has been lovingly maintained by her owners. She is extremely clean on both the interior and exterior. The Awlcraft 2000 Jade Mist Green hull and the deck, pilothouse and cabin house painted with Imron Cream with green accents is beautiful.

Vessel Walkthrough

Salon:

The main salon is open, airy, bright. This area is finished with satin varnished honey teak.

  – DC/AC panel to port, with Tank Tender, Inverter Control and just forward is Generator control panel, battery breakers, AC source selector, anchor breaker
  – Terrific natural light from three large, fixed windows with bright polished stainless-steel frames on port and starboard sides. Curtains are provided on each fixed portlight.
  – Additional natural light provided by (4) Stainless Steel overhead hatches. Each hatch has a wood framed hinged bug screens.
  – Overhead is cream fabric with varnished teak battens.
  – Light is also provided throughout via overhead lights, classic Frigast lamps, and mounted table lamps.
  – Comfortable L-settee to starboard with storage below and outboard. Just aft of the L-settee is a built-in end table with two deep drawers.
  – Varnished teak table with folding leaves and hi/low pedestal
  – Two swivel chairs are to port and have a built-in cabinet between them. This cabinet houses Samsung flat screen TV. These chairs are easily moved either to the table or turned around for use at the desks.
  – Stereo control head is outboard to port
  – Outboard of the two swivel chairs are two built-in drop-down desks. Below both desks are large storage cabinets. Forward cabinet has printer for computer.
  – Built-in bookcase is aft
  – A bound rug covers the cabin sole. Color compliments the teak wood.

Galley:

Forward of the main salon, down one step is the galley. The galley partially divided from the main salon by a teak faced partial bulkhead. The bulkhead forward bulkhead of the galley is also teak so looking from the salon one sees a big expanse of varnished teak. The galley itself is practically finished in the Herreshoff style of white Formica and varnished teak trim. Galley sole is teak parquet.

  – The galley has outstanding storage above and below the countertop as well as outboard and below the galley sole. Storage for pots and pans, dishware, glass and wine glass storage
  – To starboard is large built-in sailboat-style top loading refrigeration and freezer with holding plates. Temperature gauges are provided for refrigerator and freezer. Freezer has front opening access towards bottom. Top is Formica and inboard face is Formica. Outboard is additional storage.
  – GE Microwave outboard
  – To port is the main portion of the galley.
  – Built in Raritan Icemaker
  – Large sink unit with built-in dish drainage, large sink, small sink, and clever drop access to trash below. Moen single lever faucet with separate sprayer

  – Galley Maid electric 3-burner stove with three burners and oven. Stove has folding top to cover burners.

Master Stateroom:

Just forward of the galley, the Master Cabin is accessed through a teak door. The Master Cabin is full beam with the master berth athwartship. This area is largely finished in the Herreshoff style with white Formica and varnished teak trim. This style makes the space feel light and bright. Additional light both natural and via lamps and lights.

  – Bound rug with underlayment
  – Walk-around queen sized berth to port
  – Storage drawers below the berth and below cabin sole
  – Night stands forward and aft of berth with mounted lamps

  – To Starboard a large bank of storage lockers, drawers, and drop-down storage. This bank is all teak and really shows the quality craftsmanship.

Master Head:

Forward of the Master Cabin is the Master Head. Upon entering this cabin, the enclosed shower is to port and there is a long vanity to starboard. The marine toilet is forward with an additional vanity to port. Above the marine head is an access door to the anchor locker and additional storage to port and starboard. This area is also finished in the Herreshoff style which makes the space feel bright and airy.

  – Teak parquet cabin sole
  – Stall shower to port has a ceramic shower sole and shower seat

Guest Stateroom/Head:

The guest cabin is aft of the main salon. This area is cleverly laid out including a large double berth, large vanity, large hanging locker, and head/shower. It is finished in the Herreshoff style with Formica bulkheads and varnished teak trim. The sole in the cabin is covered with a bound rug. The head and shower sole are ceramic tile.

Upon entering the cabin, the double berth is inboard. Outboard and forward is the shower and marine toilet along with full-sized separate clothes washer and dryer. Aft of the head/shower door is a large hanging locker. Aft of this hanging locker is the head vanity.

The engine room is accessed from the aft end of the guest cabin.

  – Enclosed marine head with shower. Shower is partitioned via a shower curtain.

Between the aft deck and the main salon is the pilothouse/helm station. This area provides outstanding visibility to run the boat safely and comfortably. The helm bench has seating for 4 adults.

  – The helmsman can stand through the large 40"X40" sliding hatch on the expansive console next to the main helm and maneuver the boat with the upper controls while enjoying the wind in their face. Console is teak parquet.
  – Three fixed forward windows, two windows on each port and starboard side with one panel each side opening. Aft window lowers.
  – Below fixed forward windows on exterior are three opening ports and three on the interior which can be opened to allow additional fresh air into pilothouse.
