Sabre 48 Salon Express

Offered by JK3 Yachts San Diego, CA - S O L D (Available to view in Southern California)

we have a build slot open forMAY 2016delivery!

As an early adopter of pod drive systems, Sabre Yachts has a clear understanding of how these revolutionary drives can best be used to increase efficiency, maximize ease of operation and owner confidence. The all-new Sabre 48 Salon Express is our fifth pod driven model and she takes full advantage of this technology in both her performance and in her interior accommodation plan.

The 48s traditional exterior profile belies the contemporary performances of her vee-hull. She cruises at 27 knots and at wide open throttle shell attain more than 32 knots. With the Zeus pod drive system, turns at speed are as exciting as they are in a fine sports car but perhaps even more exhilarating is the quiet that one experiences at cruise speeds. Less than 75 Dba makes her one of the quietest motoryachts available today. The joystick and Skyhook operations give every Captain the confidence to dock her in the most difficult of circumstances.

Her raised cockpit sole brings together the social aspects of the cockpit and main salon and the aft end of the house opens up fully to connect the spaces. Her main salon offers ample seating surfaces for entertaining or simply relaxing to read or enjoy the standard entertainment systems. While underway the raised settee to port of the Stidd helm chair is a perfect place for the crew to enjoy the ride. And when docking, a standard side deck door serves her helmsman and crew, well. The two cabin, two head layout is supplemented by a mechanical space forward of the engine room. Optionally, this space can be laid out as a crew quarters with berth and head unit.

Quote from Sabre Design Team: We think its important to understand that, before we even started in on the 48s hull design, we had the advantage of having already delivered 4 different hull models which incorporated azimuthing pod systems: Volvo IPS on the Sabre 38 and Sabre 52, and CMD Zeus on the Sabre 40, Sabre 42. We began the 48SE program by reviewing both our predicted performance characteristics and the collected empirical data on these hulls, and analyzed the numbers against the corresponding hull geometry and weight and center information. This wealth of data allowed us to identify features and characteristics that benefitted performance, handling, running attitude, sea keeping, etc, and introduce these characteristics into the 48 design in a managed way.

With the overall 48 design, made a significant shift away from our typical weight distribution when we decided to close couple the engines to the drive units, thereby moving the motors aft to live under the cockpit. That move raised an eyebrow with our Owners, who were concerned about that movement of the center of gravity, and the resulting running trim angles excellent sightlines and low inherent bow rise and trim angles have been hallmarks of Sabres successful powerboat designs. But we had pledged from the start that we would develop a hull that delivered a running attitude that was as good as or better than a shaft boat along with the speed, handling and technological advantages of a pod boat so thats what we set out to do, and I think the results really speak for themselves.

Specific hull geometry features that are new on the 48:

  – Static angle of attack was introduced into the running bottom below the chine.
  – Longitudinal angle of the working chine was increased in the aft 1/3 of the hull.
  – Deadrise angles were redistributed along the length of the running surface to manipulate the longitudinal center of dynamic effort.

We also tweaked the Zeus tunnel geometry and we modeled the hull wake in 3D to better understand the running character and how the swim platform would relate to the hull wake at various speeds. All in all, the execution of this hull form was a huge team effort not a one man show. Were very pleased with the outcome.
