The Viking 42 Convertible was the first Viking model to feature Zeus pod-drive propulsion. Beautifully styled, like all Vikings yachts, the 42 has a well-appointed salon featuring an L-Shaped lounge, a Teak cocktail table, covered valances, and a surround-sound entertainment system with a flat screen TV. The dinette is a step above the carpeted sole with wrap-around seating and a teak dining table. Viking offers the 42 with a choice of layouts, The "SARLOCCO" has the standard two stateroom, two head floor plan with an island queen forward and upper and lower bunks on the port side, and two heads with showers. It has a mid-level galley with bar stool seating and a galley forward in the salon. A mezzanine deck overlooks the cockpit complete with a rocket launcher. With 122 sq. ft. of space, the cockpit is more than ample for fishing. The mezzanine features hinged ultra leather seating with stowage below and has an optional freezer, this is also where you have engine room access under a hatch that leads directly to the compartment. There is a transom door with a lift cap railing, fresh and raw water washdowns, a tackle locker with drawers, and a transom fish box.

The 42 is powered with 600hp Cummins/Zeus pod drive diesel, the 42 Convertible will cruise at 30 knots (low-to-mid 30s top speed depending on the load).

While the 42 Convertible and 42 Open share the same LOA, they are as unique as day and night. The 42 Convertible, for example, is incredibly well proportioned with its nearly 16 feet of beam to allow three staterooms and two heads below with room and comfort to spare. Likewise in the deckhouse, every available inch has been put to good use with a comfortable sofa, a dinette, and a practical galley. The cockpit sports Viking's signature observation mezzanine, while the flying bridge exhibits every amenity found on its larger siblings, albeit in a scaled-down version. Initial specifications call for the pod drive system.
